DC College Prep Quiz Bowl Club Takes on It’s Academic

Recently, Joseph Toliver, Trinity McMilan, and Dawit Tefera, members of DC College Prep’s Quiz Bowl club, had the exciting opportunity to participate in an episode of It’s Academic, a renowned weekly game show that highlights the academic skills of high school students across the Washington D.C. area.

Hosted by WETA, It’s Academic is a platform where young minds come together to compete in a battle of wits, answering challenging questions spanning various subjects from history and literature to mythology and science. Our students eagerly embraced the chance to put their knowledge to the test and represent their school on this prestigious stage.

Trinity, a senior and Quiz Bowl member, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I’ve always had information that I’ve just known, but I wasn’t sure how I could use it, which was a big reason why I wanted to join the Quiz Bowl Club and participate in the competition. It’s also been a great way to learn new things that you would never have learned before.”

The team studied diligently, honing their skills and sharpening their minds in anticipation of the competition. The experience was nothing short of exhilarating as our students faced off against their peers from other schools, engaging in fast-paced rounds of questions and strategic gameplay. Each moment was filled with excitement and adrenaline as they navigated through the questions presented before them.

While the competition was fierce, our students not only showcased their academic skills but also their camaraderie and sportsmanship. Their performance was a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of their coaches and fellow teammates.

Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Pat Wu, one of the club’s coordinators and a former It’s Academic contestant, remarked, “In addition to the general knowledge they gain, they also develop really strong study skills. Moreover, they demonstrate bravery by performing in high pressure situations such as appearing on TV without fear.”

Participating in It’s Academic was more than just a competition; it was an opportunity for our students to showcase their talents, celebrate their achievements, and forge lasting memories. We commend our Quiz Bowl club members for their outstanding performance on It’s Academic and applaud them for their commitment to academic excellence. Their journey exemplifies the spirit of determination, resilience, and intellectual curiosity that defines the DC College Prep experience.
