°µÍø½ûÇø in the Community March 2018 Edition

Spring has sprung! We’re gearing up for an exciting few months ahead at °µÍø½ûÇø DC. From receiving college acceptances and scholarships to welcoming hundreds of PreK3 – 12-grade students and families – we’ve been busy! Read all of the happenings from March in this month’s °µÍø½ûÇø in the Community.

°µÍø½ûÇø DC Walkout - Take a stand against gun violence°µÍø½ûÇø DC students Take a Stand Against Gun Violence

This month, °µÍø½ûÇøsters joined students from across the country and took a stand against gun violence. On March 14th, students participated in the National School Walkout Day and took to the streets. Students created signs, chants, and engaged in meaningful conversation around gun violence in schools and neighborhoods. °µÍø½ûÇøsters also participated in the °µÍø½ûÇø DC Quest Academy Peace Rally, Rally for DC Lives, and the March for Our Lives rally in Washington D.C. We’re proud to support students, staff, and families in conversations around safety in our schools and communities.

Community Foundation Awards Honors Champion Carol Thompson Cole

On March 12,  we were thrilled to see °µÍø½ûÇø DC champion and longtime friend, Carol Thompson Cole be honored with the Civic Spirit Award at the Awards! We are eternally grateful to Carol for being a role model of exceptional leadership and commitment to students and families in D.C.

Engagement Design °µÍø½ûÇø DC

Engagement by Design kicks off at Northeast Academy

This month, °µÍø½ûÇø DC Northeast Academy parents, staff, and leaders began working with Engagement by Design, a professional learning community aimed at building school advocates. The platform provides opportunities for parents, staff, and school leaders to gain the skills necessary to sustain school and community engagement.During the next few weeks, we’re excited to continue to work with this group of parents to foster a sense of community within the school.

DCPCSB’s Naomi Shelton visits °µÍø½ûÇø DC College Preparatory

On March 15, s newest member, Naomi Shelton visited °µÍø½ûÇø DC College Preparatory! Naomi stopped in to get an in-depth look at programs, philosophy, and overall culture at °µÍø½ûÇø DC school.  We’re excited to begin working with Naomi and the entire DCPCSB to continue providing students a world-class education. Welcome!

Mayor Bowser at Promise with student

Promise Academy Student Honored at Mayor Bowser’s State of the District Address

During the 2018 State of the District address, Mayor Bowser recognized °µÍø½ûÇø DC’s own, Janesa Moore! Last year, she had perfect attendance and also scored a 5 on her PARCC exams at °µÍø½ûÇø DC Promise Academy. Janesa even had the opportunity to participate in Mayor Bowser’s #EveryDayCounts campaign. We’re so proud of Janesa, and can’t wait to support her #toandthrough college in 2026.

State of the Ward 7 Address

On March 14, we attended the Ward 7 State of the Ward address. It was extremely exciting to hear the state of Ward 7 and brainstorm around the future! We’re proud to be part of the bustling Ward 7 community and look forward to working side by side with Councilmember Vincent Gray, the D.C. Council, and East End community organizations!
