°µÍø½ûÇø in the Community – May 2018 Edition

We’re gearing up to close out another great school year!  This month, we celebrated our  °µÍø½ûÇø DC Community Champions, welcomed moms & daughters for the first annual G.E.M.S. Summit, and launched our °µÍø½ûÇø DC Coding Bootcamp! It’s really been quite the month. Read all of the happenings from May in this month’s °µÍø½ûÇø in the Community.

°µÍø½ûÇø DC’s First Annual G.E.M.S. Summit On May 9, in partnership with G.I.R.L. Inc and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc the Girls Embracing Their Magic & Strength Summit (G.E.M.S Summit) welcomed young girls and women from across Washington, D.C. for a day of empowerment and self-care! The day consisted of a series of sessions that highlighted all girls and women’s need to continue embracing their magic and strength! More.°µÍø½ûÇø DC Community Award Winners

The 2017 -18 End of the Year Awards At this year’s End of the Year awards ceremony the community engagement team had the distinct pleasure of awarding °µÍø½ûÇø DC Community Champion awards to teachers and staff from across our schools. In total 17 teachers were awarded for their tremendous work for leading efforts to foster a sense of community inside and outside the classroom! We look forward to working alongside these community champions in the upcoming academic year.

°µÍø½ûÇø DC Launches Adult Coding Bootcamp – This month we’ve launched and received a number of applications for our °µÍø½ûÇø DC Codes Bootcamp! Starting on June 26, °µÍø½ûÇø DC will host a 10-week intensive coding boot camp for adult residents of DC’s Ward 7 and Ward 8 communities. The program will introduce adult participants to the basics of coding and help propel residents into the growing tech industry. More.

°µÍø½ûÇø DC Parent Organizations

°µÍø½ûÇø Parent Organizations Celebrate 2017-18 School Year – °µÍø½ûÇø Parent Organizations are the heart of our schools. During the final °µÍø½ûÇø Parent Organization meeting of the year at °µÍø½ûÇø DC KEY Academy, parents, teachers, and staff gathered to show gratitude for their amazing work! From being volunteers, fundraisers, to the occasional breakfast sandwich maker, our °µÍø½ûÇø Parent Organization parents go above and beyond to support all of our students! Our team truly looks forward to growing  KPO’s presence across all °µÍø½ûÇø DC schools.

Alphas at °µÍø½ûÇø DC College Prep

Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. visit °µÍø½ûÇø DC College Preparatory – On a warm Friday afternoon, the members of The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc stopped into °µÍø½ûÇø DC College Preparatory to hand out freeze pops and ensured safe passageways for our students heading into the weekend. We look forward to having you again.
