°µÍø½ûÇøsters Learn to Code

Our °µÍø½ûÇøsters got to show off some of their coding skills during Computer Science Education Week! As part of the #hourofcode movement, arranged for the developers of the coding game to visit and to share their apps and coding skills with our students. The developers hail from Iceland and a group of °µÍø½ûÇøsters from Heights Academy had the rare opportunity to visit the Embassy of Iceland and have tea with the Ambassador of Iceland!

At °µÍø½ûÇø DC Northeast Academy, students practiced their coding skills through the program.  The Economic Growth D.C. Foundation runs these free weekly classes, with students receiving a series of digital badges that will ultimately render them employable as coders.

Our high school, , hosted its first annual where teams of students created prototypes of mobile apps intended to address community problems and pitched them to technology and business experts. Their apps were focused on everything from combating homelessness in D.C. to reporting police brutality and monitoring stress levels in young adults. It is incredible to see what our students are able to create – they are having fun and building marketable skills for today’s competitive job market!
